In 1970 I graduated from the Nursing School in Belgrade and left the country in search of employment. The next 12 years I spent living in Austria, where I had a successful carrier in Intensive Care and Rehabilitation Nursing.
I loved the cultural life of Vienna and spent much of my spare time visiting galleries and going to the theater, opera and concerts. That was the beginning of my art education:
- observation and imagination. I also travelled widely throughout Europe and overseas. Since arriving in Australia I travelled all over the country and developed a deep love and appreciation for the light and colours of the landscape.
Since 1984 I studied oil painting, drawing, watercolour and pastels with several Melbourne and overseas artists. For a number of years I painted with pastels, but at the moment I enjoy working mainly in oils. After experimentation over the years, I realised I have a preference for the old masters technique and spent much time researching and studying their methods. Their techniques emphasise the artist's creativity, from selecting and arranging the subjects, to the way the story is told. Chiroscuro, or painting dark to show the light as the old masters did, is one technique I enjoy using.
I am the Signatory Mamber of The Victorian Artists' Society, exhibiting member of AGRA and The Pastel Society of Victoria. Currently I am on the Council of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists and have been an active member of Hawthorn Artists' Society for a number of years.
Since 2001 I have been exhibiting regularly, with my first solo exhibition in 2006.
My next solo exhibition will run from 21st October to November 1st 2009 at AGRA Galleries in Camberwell.
